About me
Yoga that’s empowering, and encourages you to be curious and move in new ways. For people who want to feel more at home in their body.
My story
I first stumbled across yoga while travelling around India and South East Asia. I went to a class where we practised eye yoga (amongst other things!) and although it felt a little strange at first, I absolutely loved it.
I later lived in Australia for a year, where I was lucky enough to experience many different styles of yoga. When I returned home to a small town in Surrey in the early 2000s, yoga classes were few and far between. It wasn’t until I moved to London that I eventually found an Ashtanga class — and I was completely hooked.
I completed my Yoga Alliance accredited 200-hour training with The Shala in London, with Gingi Lee and Kath Roberts, and more recently my 300-hour training with Laura Gilmore in Bristol. Along the way, I’ve had the privilege of studying and practising with many inspiring teachers, including Melanie Cooper, Jennie Wadsten, Dina Cohen, David Swenson, and Norman Blair.
I’ve been practising yoga for over 25 years, and my practice has evolved a great deal during that time. What began as a fast-paced, structured practice has gradually softened into a slower, more varied flow, with a deeper focus on breathwork and meditation. This feels far more supportive for both body and mind, and it strongly influences the way I teach today.
I’m passionate about sharing yoga in a way that feels accessible, enjoyable, and supportive. Yoga has supported me through all stages of life — relationships, work, and parenthood — and I believe it can be a powerful tool for helping us navigate the world we live in today.
Whether you’re completely new to yoga or have been practising for years, I’d love to welcome you to class.
“I have really enjoyed my 1-2-1 sessions with Sophie. She has a very chilled and calm approach to each lesson. Sophie has always tailored the sessions around any body aches or injuries, padding out my knees for floor work and taking things steady when returning to yoga after having a baby. I would definitely recommend giving her lessons a go, if you want to increase flexibility, build strength and need to release some tension after a hectic day.”
